Frequently Asked Questions

❓ Garbage and Recycling

A bin is available inside. If it’s full, please take any extra directly to the outdoor dumpster. Never leave garbage bags outside — local wildlife will quickly get into them!

For recycling: items must be clean — please rinse containers before disposing of them. A large blue bin is available on the balcony, for bottles and cans only.

Washing Machine

The washing machine is located in the hallway near the primary bedroom. Please leave the door slightly open after use to prevent mold.

We proudly use Nellie’s — a fragrance-free, ocean-friendly Canadian detergent that’s gentle on sensitive skin. We do not use dryer sheets for environmental and health reasons.

Wildlife

What about food waste and leftovers? Never leave anything outside — bears, raccoons, crows, and rats are part of the neighbourhood and won’t hesitate to help themselves.

Before leaving, make sure all doors and windows are properly closed — a simple precaution to avoid unexpected visitors.

What not to put in the dishwasher

No wooden utensils, and no non-stick cookware — the dishwasher will damage both. Please wash these by hand.

Power outage

Check the BC Hydro website for estimated restoration times. Some restaurants remain open thanks to generators. The Co-op grocery store is often open as well, but cash only.

An emergency kit is available above the fridge: first aid kit, flashlight, spare batteries, candles, and even a deck of cards to pass the time.

Natural Hazards — Earthquake & Tsunami

The Ucluelet and Tofino area is located on the Pacific coast, a seismically active zone. While earthquakes and tsunamis are possible, they are rare. Every year, thousands of visitors enjoy the region safely. The key is simply knowing what to do if an alert is issued.

If the municipality of Ucluelet issues an evacuation order, take your emergency kit and proceed immediately to the nearest designated assembly point. Municipal staff will provide instructions and updates there.
